My path to elected office was powered by youth. I have been working for years to uplift young leaders in our city government through my Youth Internship Program. Thanks to the energy and vision of Gen Z, I introduced an ordinance to amend San Mateo Municipal Code Chapter 2.27 that will confirm two youth advisory members to the Parks & Recreation Commission. Everyone should have a voice in the decisions that affect our community and this is an important step.
Young people across the county are hungry for change! They won't be told to wait their turn, they are fighting for a seat at the table now. I'm so proud to work with these kids through my Internship Program. My youth-led squad drove forward concrete successes including: launching the San Mateo County AAPI Task Force, getting two designated youth seats on the Parks & Recreation Commission, free menstruation products at our community centers, etc.
